We have been learning about Koru and Kowhaiwhai patterns. Last week we practiced drawing koru patterns in C and S shapes. Today we coloured kowhaiwhai patterns to make a border for our wall display. Next week we will create our own kowhaiwhai patterns. Look at us colouring our patterns.

The Production
I went to the production yesterday. It was about kindness. I liked the new kid. I didn't like the bullies because they were mean. It is bad when you are mean.

Term 3 Week 2
We have had a great start to Week 2. It's been good to see the sun today.
Ruru and Tui reading groups presented their play 'The Ant and the Grasshoppers' to Room 2. Room 2 enjoyed the play and thought it was very well presented. Congratulations to these two reading groups, you did a fantastic job. The photo shows the play being presented to Room 13 on Friday.

Reading, writing, and maths continue as normal. Thank you for taking the time to share your child's reader with them each night. If you need a new reading record sheet, please let me know. The poetry book will come home on a Friday so you can enjoy sharing the poems over the weekend. Please ensure this book is brought back to school on Monday so the new poem can be glued into it. At maths we are learning to recall the basic facts to 10. Some of us are really quick at this now.
This week is Maori Language Week and we continue with our Te Reo focus. This week we will begin learning about marae protocol as we talk about how people are welcomed onto a marae. We will also be making kowhaiwhai patterns to put around our wall displays.
The children are working hard in class and some are producing great work. Check out out 'Triple Star' table, by the door, to see who has their work displayed. Congratulations to those with work on this table.
Please remember to book your parent - teacher interviews via the internet (details in last week's newsletter) and to return the sheet with points for discussion.

Term 3 Week 1
We have had a great week in our new room. It has been fun getting to know everyone. We are helping each other get used to a new routine. Thank you, parents, for your patience and support as we settle in.
Our 'Star of the Week' is Hannah. Hannah has worked quietly to complete her work. She has also been a great role model showing us how to behave in Room 13. Thank you, Hannah, it's great to have you in our room.
Today we published our stories and they are now displayed on the wall. Please come in and look at our wonderful illustrations.
We also enjoyed our first session of Jump Jam.
Our topic for this term is Te Marae. We will be learning about marae protocol, learning some Maori language and waiata, doing some Maori art, and presenting our mihi. As we complete work you will be able to view it either in the classroom or on the blog. The mihi we will learn is quite short - the children need to know their father's name, their mother's name and the city or town where they were born. Please write these details on a piece of paper for your child to bring to school.
This week two children celebrated their birthdays - Nico and Jason both turned 6 on the first day back. We trust they have an exciting year being 6.
Housekeeping matters:
Library day is Monday. Please bring library books back on Monday morning so new ones can be issued.
Please return portfolios next week
Remember to book your interviews via the website - see the school newsletter for details.
Have a great weekend. I look forward to seeing you all back at school on Monday.
